In typical Pacific Northwest fashion, it’s grey and rainy and a bit chilly even though it’s June and everyone’s ready for summer to get here. So, because we felt like we wanted a pick me up, we threw together some ingredients we’ve been loving lately and created Mood-Boosting Moringa Matcha Lattes! Not only is this drink warm and comforting for a cloudy day, but both the moringa and matcha powders contain so many great benefits that you’re bound to feel good after drinking this.
Matcha powder is one of our favorite ingredients to play with, if you couldn’t tell by all of our matcha-containing recipes. Matcha, like all green teas, is full of particular antioxidants that help combat free radical formation and it’s one of the most potent sources of these antioxidants. While naturally caffeinated, matcha increases energy and endurance while also promoting calmness of mind and boosting memory. You don't have to worry about that nervous energy from caffeine - think of it as good, clean energy.
We’re new to using moringa powder but quickly fell in love with the benefits, how easy it is to use, and the rich green color that makes any recipe look amazing. Besides this Moringa Matcha Latte, we’ve been adding the powder to smoothies for a boost to our post-workout nourishment. Moringa powder comes from a plant and is a great source of protein, vitamin A, potassium, calcium, and vitamin C. This plant contains essential amino acids that are beneficial to fighting inflammation and is also high in antioxidants to help balance hormones naturally. Other beneficial side effects of using moringa include improved digestion, detoxification of the liver, stabilization of blood sugar, boosts mood and energy levels, and helps repair damaged skin and clear up acne. This latte is creamy, rich, and sweet, making it exactly what you crave on a chilly Saturday afternoon. Along with the matcha and moringa powders, we created this latte with unsweetened almond milk, coconut butter, and raw honey. The honey works perfectly to balance the greenness of the powders without overpowering their flavors. We only added a couple teaspoons, but feel free to add more honey if you want a sweeter drink. We also love the addition of coconut butter for this drink because the healthy fats help thicken it up, will keep you fuller for longer, and will stabilize your blood sugar. Altogether, this Mood-Boosting Moringa Matcha Latte with have you feeling energized and ready to take on the day!
Makes 2 servings
2 cups hot water (not boiling)
2 Tbsp. coconut butter
2tsp. moringa powder
2tsp. matcha powder
2tsp. raw honey
1 1/3 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- In your blender, combine all ingredients except the almond milk. Blend on high until frothy.
- If you have a milk frother, steam the almond milk. If you don’t, lightly heat the almond milk.
- Pour the moringa-matcha drink into two mugs and add the steamed milk to both. Enjoy!
