"Cheesy" Hummus

We're working to get into the habit of making our own hummus for the week. We eat a lot of hummus and have tried most kinds out there, but always felt like we could make it better from scratch. Making it from home also means being able to control how much oil and salt goes into it as well as getting just the texture you're looking for. For us, we prefer a creamy, smooth hummus that's not too runny, is fresh with a touch of garlic and lemon, and is "cheesy" - thanks to the nutritional yeast! This "Cheesy" Hummus is extremely easy to make and goes well with pretty much anything.


Tahini is always in our ingredients list when we make hummus - it helps make it a little thick and super creamy. This week we were sent a delicious box from Windy City Organics with products to recipe test with, including their Dastony Sesame Tahini which is some of the highest quality tahini we've ever had! It's Organic, Raw, and Stone-Ground and has a light, nutty flavor that was perfect for our "Cheesy" Hummus. Windy City Organics, based out of Illinois, produces several Organic product lines all focused on high-quality, raw, vegan snacks and spreads, such as Dastony. To say we were thrilled to receive this box of goodies is an understatement.


Homemade hummus + Dastony Sesame Tahini makes for the perfect spread. We love to eat this hummus on salad, on toast, with veggie sticks, or in a veggie wrap. The "cheesy" flavor takes it to a whole new level and definitely beats out store-bought hummus. If you haven't yet tried Windy City Organics, find them, follow them, eat them, love them.



1 15-oz can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed

6 Tbsp. water

1/4 cup olive oil

1/4 cup Dastony Sesame Tahini

3-4 Tbsp. nutritional yeast

1 garlic clove

1/2 tsp. lemon juice

1/2-1 tsp. red pepper flakes

1/2 tsp. salt


  1. Combine everything in your food processor until completely smooth.
  2. Adjust cheesiness and spice to your liking.
  3. Store in your fridge and enjoy throughout the week!
